You will learn how to check out ebooks from the library’s OverDrive service to your Kindle device. Feel free to bring your Kindle; wifi is available throughout the building. Advanced Internet Class, 03/27/2012, 2-4 p.m. Class Descriptions Introduction to Computers and the Internet: The introductory course begins with providing a basic understanding of the technical functions of how a computer works. This follows with a tour of the Windows operating system and basic use of the mouse. The next section focuses on how the internet works and the basic navigation of the World Wide Web with a web browser. We will also discuss computer security and safety precautions. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions. Advanced Computer and Internet: The advanced course is designed for computer users already acquainted with the basic operations of a computer and are looking to see what their computers are capable of. The class begins with an introduction to USB technology and shows the operation of how a digital camera interfaces with a computer. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of email and specifically transferring files via the Internet. Next, we demonstrate how to use databases for information retrieval. Finally, we will discuss and work with numerous websites for which the Internet is known, including travel, blogs, and online auction sites. Surfcat Class: Learn how to use our online catalog to place holds, renew items, and see the resources Volusia County offers its patrons. Great for those just starting out or veteran Surfcat users seeking to learn some new tricks. All About Email: Learn the ins and outs of email. Covers both free email services as well as software such as Microsoft Outlook. Students will learn how to set up an account, how to use attachments with email, safety precautions to take, and email etiquette. Word Basics: Learn the basics of the word processing program Microsoft Word.
